Chasing the Fox Fires

Join us on a hunt for Northern lights! We pack our Jeep and take off into the Finnish wilderness in search for the Aurora Borealis!

The 4×4 gassed up and ready to go, our wilderness guide will pick you up at your accommodation and drive you out into the Finnish nature. Away from the light pollution and crowds of Rovaniemi, you’ll set out on the hunt for the mythical fox fires (Aurora Borealis). Our licensed wilderness guide will show you how to make a crackling warm fire out in the cold. Over a warm drink and traditional Finnish tales, we’ll keep a lookout for the Northern lights. If luck smiles on us that night we’ll take pictures of the fox fires – with you in them too – and create lasting memories for you. You can also check our guide to photographing Northern lights beforehand and bring your own camera along. As our adventure comes to an end we’ll take you back to the buzzle of town where you can continue your journey through Lapland.

OUR AURORA POLICY

The Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon, and we cannot promise that we will see the Northern Lights during our tour. However, we are always doing our best in giving you the best possible chance to see them. For this reason we use several weather and space weather forecast services: Ilmatieteenlaitos (weather + space weather forecasts), Yr.no (weather) and Auroras Now! (space weather). In case that the chance for seeing the Aurora seems very low, we will contact you in advance. You will then be able to join the program as planned, or cancel the trip free of charge.

WHAT TO WEAR

We provide seat covers for this tour. We kindly ask you to check that you have adequate clothing for staying outdoors for several hours. Photographing the northern lights at night is a cool experience – literally and metaphorically! If you are unsure of what to wear, please check out our winter clothing tips for Lapland or contact our team and we will give you advice beforehand!
